Theoretically Speaking

I begin counseling sessions with informed consent and my theoretical philosophy of counseling. The intention of sharing these is to ensure each person understands what consenting to counseling means, and to build the therapeutic relationship. This also allows clients a chance to make sure I am the right fit for them.

I let each unique client know I will be with them in the moment, in a non-judgemental way, accepting each as they are and all they have been through on their journey of life, as told from their own phenomenological view.

Being a witness to each person's story allows me to extract unique strengths, core beliefs and coping strategies that I hear. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, I find powerful moments, emotions, and values to help integrate into present-day living. These and other evidence-based techniques help foster hope and lead to collaborative action plans.

With a guide of self-compassion and self-acceptance, clients become empowered to cultivate awareness, igniting a conscious spark. The goal for each is to remember how--and some to learn for the first time--to trust themselves and feel more confident to truly be experts of their life as they desire.

Ultimately drawing meaning from pain can aid purpose despite suffering. This brings each person to initiate tools to help re-building their destiny, and ultimately, Stepping Toward Serenity.
